How it goes

Three minutes, like this

  1. Officer

What is the supreme law of the land?

    A real officer, on video

Not a quiz. It looks and sounds like the day itself.

  2. I'm listening…

    What we heard

    The Constitution

    You answer by speaking

Get it wrong as many times as you like. It doesn't count here.

  3. Correct!

    (U.S.) Constitution

You can ask her to repeat

You can ask the real officer too — almost nobody knows that. Practise it here.

Built from a real interview

“Even with a great lawyer, the interview terrified me: a weekend lost to nerves, a day off work, alone with YouTube and Google Translate. So I built the rehearsal I wish I'd had.”

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

What if my English isn't good?

That's what this is for. You don't need fluent English — you need to be able to answer these particular questions, and they're a fixed, published list. The officer repeats, slows down and shows you the answer whenever you ask, and you can get it wrong as many times as you like. Nothing here is graded.

What do I need?

Any modern computer works. For the spoken parts, Chrome or Edge give the most reliable voice recognition — just allow your camera and microphone. Safari and phones can be less reliable for voice, but you can always study, read, and reveal answers on any device.

How many questions are on the real test?

It depends on your N-400 filing date. Filed on or after October 20, 2025, it's the 2025 test: the officer asks up to 20 of the 128 civics questions and you need 12 correct. Filed before that date, it's the 2008 test: up to 10 of 100, and you need 6. Either way, some answers depend on where you live — your senators, governor, and state capital.
